How to convert a PDF bank statement to CSV

  1. Download your statement as a PDF from your bank’s online banking.
  2. Open the converter and drop the PDF in. Enter the password if your bank protected it.
  3. Check the rows that StatementDock flags.
  4. Choose CSV, pick the date format and download.

CSV columns

Each row is one transaction.

The columns are Date, Narration, Cheque No, Ref, Debit, Credit, Balance, Mode, Party, Voucher type, Ledger, Needs review and Review reason.

Date format and encoding

Choose DD/MM/YYYY or ISO (YYYY-MM-DD) for the dates.

ISO is the safer choice when you import the file into other software.

StatementDock adds a UTF-8 marker by default so Excel shows currency symbols and names correctly. Turn it off when the file goes into other software.

Summary file

You can also download a summary CSV with the bank, account, period, balances, totals and the rows to review.

CSV or Excel?

Choose CSV to import the data into other software. Choose Excel for a formatted file with a Summary sheet and red-shaded rows that break the running balance.

Questions

Is it free to convert a bank statement to CSV?

Yes. StatementDock is free for up to 10 pages a day, with Excel and CSV downloads.

Why does my CSV show strange characters in Excel?

Keep the UTF-8 marker switched on when you download. It tells Excel to read the file as UTF-8.

Can I convert a password-protected bank statement to CSV?

Is my bank statement uploaded?

No. StatementDock reads the PDF in your browser, and we never see your statement.
