How to convert a bank statement to Excel

  1. Download your statement as a PDF from your bank’s online banking.
  2. Open the converter and drop the PDF in. Enter the password if your bank protected it.
  3. Check the rows. StatementDock flags each row that doesn’t match the running balance and says why.
  4. Choose Excel and download the file.

What’s in the Excel file

  • One row for each transaction, with date, narration, cheque number, reference, debit, credit and balance.
  • Mode and party, read from the narration where StatementDock can.
  • Amounts are real numbers, so totals and pivot tables work.
  • A Needs review column that says why a row was flagged.
  • A Summary sheet with totals.

Why the running balance check matters

Every statement row shows the balance after that transaction.

StatementDock checks that each balance equals the previous balance plus the credit or minus the debit.

A row that breaks this rule usually means a number was misread or a row is missing. StatementDock shades that row red in Excel and gives the reason in the Needs review column.

Which PDF bank statements convert?

StatementDock is tested on Indian bank statements, including SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak and Bank of Baroda.

Each row needs a date, a description, a debit or credit amount and a running balance. Dates are read day first, so US-style MM/DD/YYYY statements are not supported yet.
